Why we have an AI policy

Our AI policy exists to do two things: protect the intellectual property of our speakers, and make sure AI tools don’t become intrusive or distracting during events. To support both goals, we ask that attendees not use AI tools to record, transcribe, or repurpose content from our sessions, including sending AI transcribers in your place.

We provide live closed captions during all our events, and we also offer video recordings afterward. If you need to use any additional AI tools for personal accessibility reasons, just reach out. We’re happy to work with you to make sure you can fully participate.

Intellectual property rights

All content and materials presented at Button events are the intellectual property of the respective speakers and/or the organizers. Unauthorized recording, reproduction, or distribution constitutes an infringement of intellectual property rights.

Restrictions on recording for AI use

Attendees may not record, photograph, or capture audio, video, or images of sessions, presentations, or speaker materials for the purpose of training AI systems, generating derivative content, or reposting materials without context or attribution. This includes the creation of any form of digital replica or imitation of presenter style, voice, or content, as further clarified by current discussions regarding AI and copyright, according to the US Copyright Office (.gov).

Please note: Unless otherwise noted, sharing, such as taking screenshots of video or slides for live posting on social media or including highlights in a blog post recap, is encouraged as long as it highlights the event experience and credits the speaker and event.

Use of AI transcription tools for accessibility

To protect our speakers’ work and discourage misuse of content, attendees may not use external AI tools to transcribe or record sessions. Closed captions will be available in Zoom as well as during livestream sessions at our conferences. If you need transcription support to participate fully, please contact us in advance. We’re happy to help and can provide transcripts or discuss options that meet your needs.

Responsibility

While Button Events can’t monitor every attendee’s use of AI tools, we trust our community to respect this policy. We reserve the right to take action if it’s violated, including restricting access to future events.

This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure its continued relevance and effectiveness in the evolving AI landscape.
